And since one isn’t enough..
August 31st, 2006I’m totally psyched to be co-chairing a second CASCON workshop called “Women in Technology: New Strategies to Attract a New Generation of Girls.” From the online description:
The recent dramatic decline of female enrolments in computer science and engineering education programs follows a time when female participation had peaked in the late 1990s. This leads to the assumption that past recruitment and retention strategies do not work well with the new generation of teenagers, both girls and boys. A panel of experts will discuss various aspects of this issue, present strategies to reverse the declining trend, and suggest how to measure success. How information technologies can be integrated into many different career types will also be discussed. This workshop builds on the success of previous CASCON workshops related to women in technology.
I am co-chairing the workshop with Dr. Monique Frize who is a truly exceptional woman. And, as if that wasn’t exciting enough, Telle Whitney, President and CEO of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, is on our panel of speakers! It will be pretty amazing! I am just so excited!
See, fall isn’t all bad!
Edit: Let’s try this tagging thing… Here is the cascon2006 tag!!!!!!
Partici-pants Wanted!
August 31st, 2006Baron, some other teammates and I will be presenting at this year’s IBM CASCON. We will be running a workshop titled “Introduction to Ajax Technologies – Using Dojo” with a bunch of introductory labs on rapid web development with dojo. We tried to cram as many buzzwords as we can into the description… Not bad huh?
So ya, if you plan to be in Markham during the conference, sign up and stop by! No? How about if the conference is free with all you can eat lunch and snacks? ’cause it’s true.
Tagging posts cascon2006 is fun. I need a plugin for this.
Working Girl Woes
August 24th, 2006An interesting article from Forbes. I don’t have the energy right now for a proper rant, but regardless, it definitely made me chuckle. His article, not her response. I’m down with her response.
Jessica Simpson probably hasn’t caught wind of it, or she might not have agreed to be in the Working Girl remake. Okay, that doesn’t really make sense, but I’m still totally amused by the fact they’re remaking that movie. And that Jessica Simpson is going to be in it.
