Erin is in Israel now. The pictures prove it — choose “birthright israel, national 1” to see what’s going on with her trip.
In 1998 when I went on the March of the Living, we were the first to bring a digital camera and update a website from the trip. It was the first time I had ever played with a digital camera — a big sony that used floppy disks to store the pics. It was so exciting. And so long ago. Man are we ever old.

Today we pulled over voluntarily at a speed trap.
Well, we thought the police man was signaling us over.
After waiting a few minutes, we realized the police man was ignoring our car. So we asked the dude, and in fact we were not pulled over. So then we continued on our merry way.
And the skunk is still there.

There’s roadkill on my street. It’s a skunk.
Gross – I know.
So I called the city. The woman I spoke to told me I should move the dead skunk to the side of the road and call tomorrow for someone to come remove it. I told the woman she was crazy if she thought I was going to touch a skunk.
Then told me to call back tomorrow (when the office is open) to report it. She also warned me that they’ll probably just tell me to double bag it and move it to the side of the road.
I’m not going to call back. So much for being a good samaritan.

Tonight I was hanging out with a non techy friend of mine. She got a phone call, so I started playing Rummy Cube/Q/O on her computer. After she finished the call and was watching me play, she wished aloud that the game had a multi player mode. It took a minute, and then I went to her cupboard and got out the physical game. See, sometimes they’re more nerdy than we are.

Do you think in Japan everyone really folds their clothes like this?
I guess I will find out pretty soon!

Check out plans for Japan here.
There’s not much on the site yet, but that should change in the next few weeks.
Thanks to mattycakes for taking pity on the technically challenged.

After spending time at chapters deciding which Japan guidebook to get (no refunds/exchanges on travel materials!!), I decided to start with the Eyewitness guide to Japan since I like the pictures and find thousands of pages of text kind of intimidating.
I’m thinking I might need to augment my guidebook with one of the fat ones that have more info on hostels etc. so I need opinions. Which of the following have you used/do you recommend?
- Rough Guide
- Lonley Planet
- Let’s Go
