A Techie’s Lament
In case you didn’t know, I’m a techie. I work in computers, and so am expected to have all sorts of gadgets. But since I like to spend my moolah on other things, like black knee high boots (of which I have at least 4 different variations) and running shoes/clothes, I don’t always have new video games (well, I do have a wii…) or tech toys or cell phones. Or cable (but that’s another story).
Or a smart phone.
I used to think that was a good thing for a number of reasons:
- It’s healthy to be offline sometimes (at least, that’s what I tell myself)
- I drop my phones, throw my phones, lose my phones…. which isn’t the biggest deal when it’s a free phone (and the free phones I’ve had are normally pretty sturdy!). So I’m not sure how a smart phone will survive under my care!
- I have an addictive personality so might be really cracked out.
But now I’m starting to wonder how my life would change for the better if I had an iPhone (even without a data plan!) or a BlackBerry. Most importantly I could keep my google calendar on me! And, well, I think that’s what I’m hung up on right now. Since, as much as I hate being left out of my friends’ BBM chats [btw, one of my friends BBMed most of the time she was in labour] I would rather an iPhone any how so that problem would remain.
…. And it’s not going to happen. Why? N has told me if I get a smart phone, he’s getting a motorcycle. I have told N that if he gets a motorcycle, I’m breaking up with him. So, um, yeah.
And that is why I’m stuck with my old Nokia Stupid Phone.

Well a MOTORCYCLE is hardly a fair trade for an iPhone…. just sayin’. 😉
I prefer to be “disconnected” when I’m away from work/home, so a plain odl cell is (more thasn) enough for me personally.

Ohhh, the typos. Sorry about that; I should really read what I write before clicking SUBMIT.

I too struggle with the decision of getting a blackberry (mostly for being able to access my gcal).

Why not get an iphone and get him a toy motorcycle and call it a day?
OR get a phone that uses Android and has a keyboard/touchboard. I know you’re Mac-tarded…but maybe you can sneak that on through on the technicality of it’s not a smart phone, its a g-phone or something like that. he’s a lawyer – he likes when people discover loopholes (ok he’s studying to become one anyways)
