i went through resumes today.
for details, check out Nat’s explicit description.
some personal highlights: i hate badly done resumes. i mean, there are people that will edit them for you on campus! come on people! book an apt!
anyways, notes:
– white space is a good things. though if you have 4/4 outstandings you’ll still get an interview.
– no cover letter is better than a template cover letter (and yes, you *can* tell – especially if you apply to the same company for different jobs with the same letter)
– it’s perl. *not* pearl.
– AND if you address your cover letter to ‘Dear Sir’ and i am reading the resumes, you will not get an interview. i don’t care how good you are
The End
oh, on a side note i read the resume of the person with the user id j2schach because I already had jschacht – haha! i rock.

trying to get tix to a Freshers week event at Oxford Brookes (a more technical college) next week – it’s a party where everyone dresses up like school children. haha!
good thing we consulted with work before buying the ‘tartan’ skirts for our uniforms, cause it turns out here they’re solid black/blue… oh, the cultural differences 🙂

Paris next Friday (04/10) – Monday (07/10)!!!!!!!!!!
Now, I’m addicted. Looking into flying to Glasgow on 30/11 for the night to see a Moby concert. The flight there is £0.01. Of course, with taxes it comes out to £11.95. Total flight costs will come in just under £40. And then the tickets (there is still general admission – i’m not sitting through another Moby concert!) are £20. Hmm…

went to London on saturday. first we went to see the changing of the guard. it was the wrong day. whoops. so we saw the horse guard ride by and stood confused and waited for the other guys for about 20 minutes before we realized they weren’t coming (the tour groups leaving the palace was a pretty good hint).
it was also London Open House this weekend. Too bad there were so so soooo many people that everywhere we wanted to go was London FULL House. the only place we actually got into was the Australia house. Random.
Oh well. Had McDonalds and they have Sweet Curry sauce for your fries. Really quite gross actually. I can’t get over the indian food EVERYWHERE – you can even get chicken tikka at KFC.

I promised natalie that she could blog about this. Hrmph. I love Britpop.
anyways, last night didn’t go to the dj thing – the tix were sold out when the poeple we were going to go with got there. instead, went to G&D’s [I love internet in the uk] for ice cream (i had ‘Purity and Danger II’), then to the Turf Tavern. I now have an official Half Pint glass certified by #2043. oh, and our friend from work snuck us into his college to see it. fun!
and today for lunch i had a chicken salad sandwich – not to be confused with a chicken mayo sandwich. then i was taught to add [stolen] chips to it, and put on tomato sauce. was really quite good. however, i’m still not too keen on trying Marmite or Bread and Drippings.

breaking news: there is apparently a place in oxford offering £1500 if you let them remove your toe and then reattach it for medical research. Nat’s boss has taken a look at the intern contracts, and decided that there is nothing that precludes DecisionSoft from sending the interns to have the procedure done and then keeping the money (which they say might even be tax free!). apparently i’m to go first.
jolly good.
update: the same place pays £500 per wisdom tooth. he wants 1 from each coop (that will pay for his telly.) too bad i’ve already had all of mine out. uh, is one toe more important than the others?

last night we were supposed meet up with the american friends i made on the bus on monday. it ended up being me, my flatmates and one american. we went to the eagle and child, and then to the lamb and flag where we closed out the place (at 11. i love oxford.)
so the guy was pretty funny – especially since everything he knows about Canada he knows because of hockey. in fact, he seems to think that canada actually *is* america, just with more hockey.
best question: so, does canada have a capital?
but, must give him some credit because he is a hip fan, and it looks like he will be joining us for a concert or two in November.
oh, did you know that bartenders can make pictures on the foam at the top of a pint of guinness?? one place made a shamarock, but the next one actually wrote initials for us! haha! i’m going to start drinking guinness!
and i love 7 am phone dates – *especially* those financed by Uncle Bill.
